Prince’s 1985 album ‘Live’ is released on vinyl for the first time
Prince and the Revolution To live the concert film will receive a vinyl, CD and Blu-ray release for the first time.
Prince and the Revolution: Live will arrive on June 3. It is available for pre-order on the late artist website in the aforementioned formats, plus a Collector’s Edition that includes three 150-gram LPs (purple, red, and gold vinyl), two CDs, a Blu-ray video, a 44-page photobook, new liner notes, and a attach.
the To live the film was recorded at Prince’s March 30, 1985 concert at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY, while he was on tour in support of his chart-topping 1984 album purple rain. The set list suitably included purple rain in its entirety, plus six songs from its predecessor, 1999.
The Prince Estate presents a preview To live with a video of the opening of the show “Let’s Go Crazy”. You can watch the performance and see the full To live list of tracks below.
Prince originally published To live on VHS; the album received a posthumous DVD release in 2017, and the audio became available digitally in 2020. The concert features extended versions of many songs, including an 18-minute rendition of “Purple Rain” to end the show. The set also featured various interludes and song clips, including the aptly titled “Purple House,” an ode to Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House.”
The members of the Revolution reflected on the simultaneous tightness and spontaneity of the purple rain tour in 2017 rolling stone oral history, revealing that Prince would punish band members who made mistakes.
“If you missed a cue or played an extra punch or something, it was $500,” keyboardist Lisa Coleman said. “He would withhold your money. It’s never happened to me. I’m lucky. I’m actually good at pretending. He never knew when I made a mistake.” “It was literally the Olympics,” added guitarist Wendy Melvoin. “We were like synchronized swimmers. If somebody messed this thing up, there’s not even a bronze medal. You’re just off the team. It was high stakes.”
